EXPERT LECTURE

A lecture on “Introduction to IP Multimedia Systems” was delivered on Jan 19th, 2016 by Mr. Rishi Asnani, Senior Solution Architect, Mobile Core Networks, Ericsson India Pvt. Ltd and coordinated by Dr. Rekha Vig.

Mr. Rishi Asnani has experience of 20+ years in Telecommunications / ICT industry, primarily in the areas of Mobile/PSTN/Enterprise network planning, operations, support, performance and training. He has worked with Telecom operators and vendors within India and overseas. This lecture was primarily conducted for ECE Semester VI students to introduce the concept of IMS to them.

Mr. Asnani explained the IP Multimedia Subsystem or IP Multimedia Core Network Subsystem (IMS), which is an architectural framework for delivering IP multimedia services. It is a concept for an integrated network of telecommunications carriers that would facilitate the use of IP (Internet Protocol) for packet communications in all known forms over wireless or landline.

We believe that the journey of getting a dream job at any law firm or pursuing legal practice and becoming a well established lawyer begins only after legal education. But this journey starts from the very first day, on which a student after completing secondary education decides to pursue law as a career. So every student must plan this journey from the first day and selection of best law school and integrated 5 years law degree programme is vital for this. To support my view I would like to quote few words of Erin Andrews who has said “Success doesn’t happen overnight. Keep your eye on the prize and don’t look back”.

1. Law School Selection

Students must prepare for CLAT and LSAT Examination to get enrolled in top National Law Universities. I have noticed most of the students write competitive exams without even knowing the outlines of the Syllabi of these competitive exams. Without preparation students do not get admissions in desired Law schools.

2. Appropriate Course Curriculum

Gone are the days, where we had traditional dual degree integrated 5 years BA-LLB degree and this was the only option available for law students to pursue. Now with the changing paradigms of legal education, we have other specialisations merged with law like BBA-LLB, BBA-LLB (Hons.), B.Tech-LLB, BSc-LLB etc. These degree programmes have been designed to cater the needs of the industry. Many leading Universities have excelled in imparting these specialised programmes. For instance, BBA-LLB (Hons.) is the flagship programme of Law School at The NorthCap University, Gurgaon which is top & only private university in Haryana in the NIRF (MHRD, Govt. of India) ranking. Likewise UPES, Dehradun offers B.Tech-LLB in energy laws. Though, I may not suggest Law programme with B.Tech./ B.Sc., because the employment prospects in the legal industry with respect to engineering and science is currently very limited and on the other hand BBA-LLB (Hons.) is highly desired and the demand is growing. 

Special Lecture on ‘What ails the Judicial System?’

A variety of factors, collapse of public order, ineffective policing and delays in justice affect our society in an adverse way. Police, by the very nature of their functioning, are the most visible arm of the state and play a crucial role in the administration of criminal justice. With an objective of highlighting the lacunae in the criminal justice delivery system, the School of Law organized a special lecture on ‘What ails the Judicial System?’ by Mr RS Dalal, IPS, Former Director General of Police, Haryana on March 3, 2016. During his lecture to the students of Law, Mr Dalal expressed concerns about the rise in number of backlog cases before the courts and unusual delay in the justice delivery process. He also emphasized on the fact that the overflowing of litigation should be addressed urgently and the same may be avoided if the issues are dealt with by the executive agencies in an effective manner and within time. Having served as a senior officer in Police for long years, Mr Dalal shared his experiences including the challenges encountered during his service. He strongly urged everyone to combat perennial issues like corruption to build up a more accountable society to live in. The students were motivated by a documentary shown by him which was based on various phases of his service in Police. Mr Dalal also encouraged them to join Indian Police Services to contribute meaningfully towards the society.
