NCU students attend IEEE-IPR Workshop at IIT Delhi

IEEE Delhi Section conducted a workshop on ‘Patent Publishing in India - A Paradigm-shift for Innovation in Academics’ at IIT Delhi on 20 Aug 2018. 13 members of the IEEE-NCU Chapter actively participated in the event and learnt about patenting and its importance on the following topics:

•‘Setting up an IPR Cell’ by Dr Smitha Sahu, Amity University.

•‘In-depth understanding of the patenting process right from filing, publishing to granting’ by Mr Prithipal Singh, India Patent Office.

•‘Tools for Prior-Art search and to determine patentability’ by Mr James Durkin, IP.com

Students were inspired to write more research papers for IEEE-NCU Chapter and received Certificates of Participation. The feedback from students was positive and they were motivated to learn more about patent publishing.

Report on "Ace your Interview" session

A special session was organized by EECE department on "Ace your Interview" by Ms. Shikha Malhotra, Certified Image Consultant on 8th August 2018. Students of B.Tech Final year ECE attended the lecture. It was a rigorous 2.5 hour session on innovative and unique techniques of facing interviews including proper communication, showcasing strengths and putting forth weaknesses. Live session on body language and mock interviews were conducted by Ms. Shikha. Students found the session very beneficial, especially with placement season starting soon. The feedback of the session was excellent. 

The guest lecture was coordinated by Dr. Rekha Vig.

The University continues its Zero Tolerance Policy towards Ragging

With the new Academic session slated to start from 23 July 2018 and admissions continuing in full swing, The NorthCap University, Gurugram held its Anti-Ragging Committee meeting under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. HB Raghavendra on 20 Jul 2018.

The Committee had wide representation with members from the University Administration, Faculty, Hostel Wardens, Local Police Station, Parents, student representatives, members from the Press and local NGOs. The VC welcomed all members and expressed satisfaction on the unblemished record of ‘NIL’ incident of ragging since its inception and reiterated the University’s resolution of remaining free from the ugly menace of ragging. Member- Secretary informed the members that Anti Ragging Squads from amongst the members of the faculty, administration and technical staff had been constituted and duly briefed on what constitutes ragging, vigil to be mounted to ensure meticulous implementation of anti-ragging measures and redressal mechanism in case the need arises. All members were directed to perform this duty diligently and with utmost sincerity.

Member-Secretary informed the members that Student Anti-Ragging Counsellors from across all Programmes at the University had been appointed to help act as an interface between the freshers and existing students to ensure no harassment is meted out to them.

The local Police representative was requested to depute a beat constable, especially in the evening after classes, to obviate any scope of indulgence in ragging by senior students. The member-secretary confirmed that all reports as mandated by the UGC, Govt of Haryana and local Police are being rendered without delay. The VC emphasized that ragging, being a cognizable offence, those indulging in it would have an FIR lodged against them and the case would meet its logical end as per the country’s laws. The meeting ended on a positive note with all members expressing satisfaction at the measures instituted by the University and offered their whole hearted support in ensuring that the University remains ragging free.

Posters received from the Ministry of  Human Resource Development, Govt of India, on anti-ragging have been displayed at several places on the University campus.

An upswing in placements for ECE due to resurgent Telecom Sector

The Telecom Sector appears to be moving towards a revival in the coming times as is evident from the surveys conducted by India Brand Equity Foundation (www.ibef.org/industry/telecommunications.aspx),  the CCI (www.cci.in/pdfs/surveys-reports/telecom-sector-in-india.pdf ) and the Hindu (www.thehindu.com › Business › Budget). A revived telecom sectormeans a surge in the demand for telecom engineers, both fresh and experienced, and hence a boost in the placements for the ECE students in the near future. The EECE students of The NorthCap University (NCU), Gurgaon, one of the best engineering colleges in Delhi/NCR,with a higher knowledge base do remarkably well  in telecom, VLSI and IT industry as they are well-versed in skills demanded by these companies, particularly in new technology areas.  Keeping that in mind, choosing ECE from the NCU for graduation will be the first step towards a bright future for engineers in the making.

The EECE Department of the University has the same story of excellence as the University itself. It has a highly qualified and a motivated faculty to guide their students through their engineering programs at both graduate and post graduate levels. Most of the faculty members in the department are either PhD are pursuing PhD, remarkably headed by the HoD, an eminent scholar with a vast experience from the industry as well. There are well equipped labs in the department where the students perform their experiments, prepare for different competitions or work on their projects with the help of highly trained and skilled lab technicians. Workshops, seminars, industrial visits and competitions etc. are conducted regularly in the department to add to the knowledge base of the students in addition to what they are taught in the class rooms. This way they get to keep abreast of the latest technologies and developments in the industry and research fields to help them choose their career options.

In addition to the regular curriculum, there are a large number of value added courses being run in the department to further enhance the students’ skill set, be it soft skills, languages or competitive skills. Also classes like PDP, GK and recently introduced technical bridge courses give them an edge over others in their placement prospects. There are a number of hobby clubs the students can join to indulge their creative side. These clubs give them a platform to showcase their talents. There is a high frequency of alumni interaction where valuable tips for jobs and higher studies are imparted to the students by the alumni.

All these steps help the students in their overall development and make it possible for them to make it big in the world after they leave university.
