The NorthCap University (NCU) has declared the closure of its classes as advised by the Government of Haryana and adopted online teaching of all programmes till further notice to fulfill its academic objectives. The University is promoting online education for its regular students from 2016 by making it an essential component of learning, even prior to the MOOC initiatives by the Government of India and UGC. Study materials through LMS are always encouraged in the University since a decade. Vice-Chancellor Prof H B Raghavendra stated that this initiative of the University is now widely appreciated by the students and all the stakeholders in view of the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic. The experience gained by the faculty members on online learning have enabled the University to quickly switch over to online teaching from physical teaching mode. The current stand of the University is vindicated not only by our own NCU family but also by other institutions now.
Vice-Chancellor also added that he had already sent a request to the Government of Haryana to permit and promote this online and distance learning with accountability among its peer institutions having faculty and expertise for both Government and Private Universities. He is hopeful that the Higher Education Department considers their request positively at the earliest to serve the society’s educational needs to reach out to all sections of the community. This practice is already permitted in some other States.
