The International Conclave on ‘India: The Global Destination for Higher Education’ held at New Delhi on 10 June 2017 was organized by IIT Kharagpur Alumni Foundation (India) in collaboration with Pan IIT Alumni India. Prof. Prem Vrat, Pro-Chancellor, NCU presented the Theme Paper wherein he elaborated on the urgent need of ushering in an atmosphere of Excellence and Quality in our institutions of higher learning.

Prof. Prem Vrat spoke about the education system at the Nalanda University which attracted scholars from all over the world in ancient times. Prof. Prem Vrat was of the view that if India could once again adopt the same systems and provide quality learning it would be able to stop the exodus of students seeking quality higher education abroad and also attract the best scholars and once again become a ‘Global Destination for Higher Learning’. Prof. Prem Vrat was of the opinion that there should be no age bar for teachers, there should be no discrimination among students

The conclave was attended by Directors from IITs, IIMs, NITs, IIITs and Chancellors/Vice-Chancellors of reputed government and private universities that have the potential to attract foreign students. Some top policy makers, academicians, and corporate leaders also attended the conclave. Minister of State Higher Education Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey inaugurated the conclave as the Chief Guest and HRD Minister Mr Prakash Javadekar addressed audience through Video telecast.

The event was well covered in the media with some magazines like ‘Dialogue India’ covered his speech extensively in their July 2017 edition.

The recommendations in the conclave are being collated to be forwarded to MHRD.
