NCU Students Serve Society with Compassion and Concern for All

A team of students from NCU’s School of Management interned at Agewell Foundation, New Delhi from 28 Nov 2017 to 15 Jan 2018 and worked on a socially relevant project under the banner ‘Spread the Warmth’. The project involved making people aware of the joy of giving, collecting usable clothes, sorting and then transporting and distributing the same to the underprivileged in the slum areas in Gurugram. This helped them understand the ground realities of the living conditions of the people there. Several national dailies highlighted the work of the students and their efforts were highly appreciated by Agewell Foundation. (‘Special Consultative Status’ by ECOSOC at United Nations since 2011). This community service internship was coordinated by Dr Sushmita B Waraich and Dr Saumya Dixit.

Live Telecast of Prime Minister's Address to Students

Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi held an interactive session with students of schools and colleges to discuss the importance of stress-free exams which was telecast live at The NorthCap University from 11am to 12 noon on 16 February 2018. Special arrangements were made by the University so that a maximum number of students were able to join the Prime Minister’s session ‘Pariksha Par Charcha’. A large number of students benefited from the Prime Minister’s advice.

HR Conclave 2018 at NCU

The North Cap University, Gurugram organized ‘HR Conclave 2018’ on 15 Feb 2018. The event brought together eminent HR professionals from the industry on a common platform where they shared their experiences and best practices on the topic ‘Nurturing Human Capital in 21st Century Organizations - Prospects and Challenges’. Over 450 participants interacted with the faculties and students from the disciplines of Engineering, Management and Law. Students from Engineering, Management and Applied Sciences showcased their technical capabilities by displaying their projects. 

Delivering the welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. HB Raghavendra said that in today's dynamic work environments nothing is more important than building a sustainable workforce. This needs positive thinking and engagement of individuals aligned to the vision and culture of their organization.

The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr Niraj Kumar, Managing Director, Deloitte. In his keynote address he highlighted how rapid changes in technology are influencing both the people and their workplaces. He mentioned how the field of HR has substantially evolved with time and has embraced technology for day-to-day activities of recruiting, skill development of employees and performance reviews.

Eminent delegates at the conclave included industry experts from Maruti Centre for Excellence, British Telecom, Fidelity International, Express Roadways, Square Root, Exicom Tele-Systems Ltd, Kellton Tech, City Innovates Pvt Ltd among others.

Some of the major projects on display included New Genre Motorcycle, SUPRA Vehicle, Go-Kart Vehicle, GSM based Dot Matrix Display, Door alarm using Arduino & ultrasonic sensor, Digital Tachometer using 8051 Microcontroller, Bio-matric Vehicle Security, Smart Organic Rooftop Farming, Car Game with Gesture Control, Smart Streetlight, Busy Road, Hydraulic Lift, Fire Alarm (Physics), Global Warming etc .

The event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the Director, School of Professional Attachment, Mr BK Gupta.

Club Activities Organized by The Centre for Languages Learning

During Club Fiesta week from 12-16 Feb 2018 activities were organized by the clubs at the Centre for Languages Learning, NCU to provide a platform to students to showcase their talent and boost their confidence.

  • Club Success Mantra organised ‘Just Jumble’ on 13 Feb 2018 in which participants had to guess jumbled words and sentences. There was a time limit of one minute for each question. The jumbled sentences were in reported speech and participants were tested for their grammar skills. The winner of this activity was Dinesh, 1st Year ECE. The event was coordinated by Surbhi Thakkar and Esha Changotra, Dept of EECE under the guidance of faculty coordinator, Dr Payal Khurana. 

  • Club Lingua Franca organised ‘Hypothesis Thinking’ on 13 Feb 2018. By seeing an image, participants had to guess the name of the famous personality from the field of literature within a time limit of one minute. There were 10 images shown to the participants and also 10 multiple choice questions based on those personalities. The winner of this activity was Sudeepa, 2nd year, Dept of ECE. The event was coordinated by Esha Changotra  and Surbhi Thakkar, 2nd year Dept of EECE under the guidance of faculty coordinator, Dr Payal Khurana. 
  • The Speech and Debating Club, Abhivyakt, organised ‘Pot Debate’ on 12 Feb 2018 on the topic ‘Is Bollywood becoming a soft target for political games?’ The participants were judged on several parameters such as content, speech clarity, convincing ability, factual knowledge, confidence, body language, ability to reply to questions correctly and also the ability to ask questions. The participants came up with great points and intelligent answers. Jatin Hooda, BBA-LLB (H) stood First in the Debate.
  • The ‘Pot Debate’ was coordinated by Chavi, Vice President, Abhivyakt and Dr Divyabha was the faculty coordinator of the event.

Pre-placement Interviews in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering organized pre-placement interview for pre-final year students on 10 Feb 2018 to give them an actual interface with the corporate interviewing environment before the start of campus recruitments.

Three Alumni of the Department, Mr Ujjwal Prabhakar, JP Constructions; Mr Dilpreet faculty at FIIT JEE Education and Ms Rupali Gupta, Ecosystem Resource Management along with faculty members interacted with the students and judged them on the basis of their technical knowledge, communication skills, general knowledge, dress code, HR skills etc. Department gave a vote of thanks to the invited alumni with the University memento. A feedback session was also conducted by the Department’s Placement Cell in which faculty had one to one interaction with students and gave them the panel feedback, highlighting their key strengths and areas for improvement.

Synergy Club Organizes ‘The AD–MAD Show’

Synergy Club, School of Management, NCU organized the ‘AD-MAD Show’- an advertisement making competition on 8 Feb 2018. It was open to all students of the University and they participated in teams of 3-4 students. Students showcased their creativity in marketing products and services and as well as their acting talent. The objective of the event was to acquaint students about the promotional strategies of marketing through advertisements.

It comprised of humorous and conceptual Ad presentations by students who were provided an innovative product that was not yet launched in the market and they were expected to present an Ad of a maximum of one minute.

The event started with an introductory presentation regarding the rules for the participants. After allotting the topics the students were given 10 minutes to prepare for the Ad. All the advertisements were very entertaining, which also received a good response from the audience. All the participating teams displayed creative thinking and commendable team work. AD MAD Show’s Winning Team comprised of Ujjawal, Stephen, Rohan and Sagar and the Runners-up team comprised of Aarushi, Anushka, Aditya and Aditi, BBA 4 th Sem. Dr Saumya Dixit and Dr Preeti Chawla were the judges of the competition and shared their appreciation of the event. The faculty coordinator for the event was Dr Shelly Singhal.

Socially Relevant Project Engagement with the Industry at NCU

A team from Terra Motors (Japan’s No 1 Electric vehicle company), Gurugram visited NCU on 8 Feb 2018 in connection with a project titled ‘Structural analysis of electric 3W chassis’ submitted to Terra Motors for support by Dr Rohit Singh Lather, Associate Professor, Dept of ME and Mr Aditya Choudhary, and Mr Vaibhav Kaushik (BWS-Vibration Lab). The team from Terra Motors comprising of Mr Masanori Takahashi, Vice President Production and Mr Karthik Anantha, 

Manager visited NCU to see and assess the resources and facilities for the project at the University. They discussed about the project with the project team of 3rd Year ME students as well as Mr Tarun Rana, Mr Suraj Yadav and Mr Shubham Jha, technical staff of ME. They also interacted with Prof. Prem Vrat, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Prof. HB Raghavendra, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Ravindra Ojha, Director SOET and Head, Dept of ME. They visited the CAD Lab, to see the Solidworks and ANSYS workstation facilities, BWS-Vibration Lab and IC Engines Lab. The visit by Terra Motors was facilitated by Dr Rohit Singh Lather.
